REVIEW: Iiyama ProLite E2200WS-B1 Part 8

The first thing that stands out is that the brightness on the left near the edge is weaker than that on the left edge. The greatest deviation we measured was in the top left-hand corner: here, the value was just 80 percent of the guide value of 140 cd/m².

However, the bare figures are more dramatic than the brightness distribution actually looks in reality. Regarding illumination and brightness distribution , we rate this monitor as satisfactory overall.

Iiyama states that the horizontal viewing angle is 170 degrees and the vertical angle 160 degrees, with a contrast ratio of 10:1. These are ambitious values for a TN panel; even just a year ago, the maximum viewing angle attainable with a contrast ratio of 10:1 would be around 150 degrees, at least on paper.

However, the AUO TN panel cannot match the theoretical values in practice. Already at viewing angles of 140 to 150 degrees, significant changes in colour and brightness can be seen.

We find the manufacturer details of 160 and 170 degrees too optimistic for a contrast ratio of 10:1. We rated the Iiyama E2200WS-B1 as satisfactory when it came to viewing angle dependency.

The top picture shows the viewing angle from underneath; the bottom picture shows the viewing angle from above.

The monitor’s TN panel features real 6 Bit pro RGB colour and can therefore display 262,144 real colours. This can be extended to 16.7 million colours by mixing via frame rate control using four colour frames in succession. The result is actually very good.

Faint lines can also be seen in the grey level progression. In practice, however, the stripes cannot be seen when most applications are in use.

The Iiyama E2200WS-B1 was calibrated using Colorimeter Silver Haze Pro (x-rite model DTP94) and Quatographic iColor software. We then measured the reproducible colour space and the colour output quality.
