REVIEW: Meditec SHB-22S6 TW Part 13

Because of the fixed refresh rate of 60 Hz, juddering effects can be seen PAL films as well as in DVD playback, but this is observed in most desktop monitors and occurs only seldom thanks to modern recording technology.

Scene from "Ronin", compressed AVI format (181 kBit/s).

Conclusion

The Meditec SHB 22S6 TW offers everything one could expect from a 22-inch TN panel LCD monitor in terms of image quality – and for little money at that. Contrast, colour display and sRGB display are good, as are interpolation and gaming quality. The illumination is also good and better than the competition in some cases. The viewing angles are standard for a TN panel monitor and are therefore satisfactory.

However, the controls on the monitor could certainly be improved, demonstrating many weaknesses such as the illegible button labelling and hidden buttons, the imprecise setting levels and lack of an sRGB profile not to mention the restore function, which does not work correctly and last but not least, the brightness, which cannot be lowered sufficiently.

The pleasant look of the monitor is spoiled by some manufacturing faults, though the roughest faults we discovered appears to be a one-off fault in our test monitor rather than a general fault.

The user should also note that the documentation of the Meditec SHB 22S6 TW is incomplete and mentions functions that the LCD does not even possess. Overall, most of the weak points of the monitor are minor issues that Meditec can easily fix in the next model or the next revision.

When it comes to the all-important image quality, the Meditec SHB 22S6 TW performs well and the price-performance relation is excellent, with a retail price of just 250.00 Euro. The fact that the Bring-In guarantee is two instead of three years and that the user has to call a pay-per-use 0900 number for service is not a major annoyance.

If you are looking for the biggest possible screen for office, games, DVD playback and leisure image processing for the lowest possible price, you should definitely give the Meditec a chance, even though the name Meditec is still relatively unknown. This could change very quickly.

Overall rating: GOOD
