REVIEW: ViewSonic VX2235wm Part 5

Close-up of the screws securing the arm: Once all six screws have been removed, the monitor arm can be removed.

The ViewSonic VX2235wm is designed to accommodate a VESA100 mount at the back. The screw holes of the VESA- mount are covered and protected with black rubber. Once the arm has been removed, any VESA100-compliant mount can be attached to the LCD.

The VESA100 screw holes are covered with small rubber caps.

Although the ventilation slots at the back of the ViewSonic VX2235wm appear quite large at first, they are actually quite finely cut, so that most creepy crawlies have no chance of making their way inside the monitor.

Fine ventilation slots make it difficult for insects attracted by the back light to find their way inside the monitor.

The internal power unit of the VX2235wm works practically noiselessly so that you can only make out a slight whirring sound by listening at the back of the monitor. ViewSonic have not included a power switch, so in order to remove the unit from the mains supply, the user must unplug it.

When the LCD is in use, the LED (which is integrated into the power button) glows blue; in standby mode, it is illuminated orange. The brightness of the LED does not disturb the user in the slightest.

ViewSonic advertise the power consumption of the VX2235wm as a maximum of 48 watts and under 1 watt in standby mode. No details are provided for usage when the monitor is switched off. We used a measuring device to check the power consumption.

Power consumption

  Manufacturer Measured
48 W 39,7 W
< 1 W 0,6 W
- 0,6 W

The measurements given by ViewSonic are significantly higher than those we recorded during testing. Power consumption when the monitor is in use, in standby mode and switched off is very good for a 22-inch widescreen LCD. However, it really should be possible to remove an electronic device completely from the mains –and thereby avoid unnecessary usage when the device is switched off - without having to unplug it.

All in all, the ViewSonic VX2235wm is very well made: The base is stable, the cover is good quality and cleanly made and the tilting mechanism works smoothly.
