REVIEW: Lenovo L220x Wide Part 4

The exterior of the monitor has very small ventilation slots. Although these prevent insects from entering the monitor, their small size means that heat build-up is considerable when the monitor is in use over a long period. An enormous temperature can be recorded in the middle of the monitor near the top. It remains to be seen how much this affects the lifetime of the monitor. The monitor functions absolutely noiselessly and does not produce any sound when in use.

Power consumption

  Manufacturer Measured with USB
< 90 W 84,0 W 86,0 W

k.A. 47,3 W 49,6 W
< 2 W 0,8 W 2,4 W
< 1 W 0,4 W 0,4 W

The manufacturer’s details do not distinguish between use with and without a USB cable.

Connectors

The monitor’s connectors are located on the back: 1 x DVI-D Dual Link (digital), 1 x D-Sub (analogue) and a USB Uplink Port which runs the 4 USB ports (USB 2.0) which are also integrated into the monitor. However, these only function when the monitor is connected to the PC with the USB cable that is included in the scope of supply.

The cable management solution is positive to look at. The cable slot together with the cable binder and flexible straps ensure that the cables can be accommodated tidily.

Straightforward: USB, D-Sub and DVI-D connection (left picture) and cable management: First, open the base completely …

… insert the cables and secure with the holder, then replace the cover. Simple and effective.

Controls and OSD

The monitor’s controls comprise five buttons in a snake pattern. These are located in the lower frame towards the right, with the power button at the edge, presenting a bright point on the outer edge. This represents the eye of the snake. The feel and tactile feedback of the buttons are both pleasant. The buttons are relatively long and their sensitivity decreases noticeably towards the edges.

On the right beside the buttons is an LED which displays the operating status of the monitor. The labelling of the buttons, which features symbols in various colours, is difficult to impossible to make out in weak environmental light. Only the bright spot on the outer frame is visible. Therefore, the buttons are limited in their suitability for use in poor lighting conditions.

Use of the buttons is almost self-explanatory. As well as the obligatory power button, there is a button for directly selecting the signal inputs and a third button which is used for setting the brightness. Other settings are accessed via the OSD.

The OSD is comprehensively structured and the individual options can be reached in a few steps. The factory colour settings can also be selected here: reddish, sRGB, neutral, bluish. Alternatively, you can set the RGB channels yourself.
