Conclusion

The Samsung SyncMaster 2263DX makes a good impression overall. It is suitable, almost without any problems, for use as a PC monitor for the "carefree user": it is simple in design, but thanks to its piano lacquer finish, it still looks stylish. It is easy to begin using and can be used with all elements (sound, webcam and additional screen) without the need to read the user guide in great detail.

With regard to the profiles offered, Samsung should improve these. The pre-defined modes in the OSD are still passable for watching films and for playing games. However, users who value accurate reproduction of the sRGB colour space and cleanly resolved grey values will not be able to avoid calibrating the monitor. Although the 2263DX is not suitable for the higher graphics/printing sectors without an extended colour space, it still provides very good results in the sRGB colour space after calibration. Use of the OSD via the sensor buttons is not very comfortable.

The Samsung 2263DX surprised us very positively with its good viewing angles and gaming qualities. Almost without any input lag, it is not only suitable for occasional gamers, but also for professionals. And thanks to its 7-inch second screen, relevant menus or applications can be moved to the smaller screen.

However, in practice, this function proves to be little more than a gimmick. With a 7-inch diagonal and a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, the screen is limited to Instant Messenger windows, tool palettes for graphics editing programs or File managers. If you really want to extend your workspace, you will need a second monitor.

However, you will surely attract interest when you present this monitor with the attached mini-display. And if you are suffering from a chronic lack of space both on the screen and on your desk and are already thinking about what you would like to display on the 7-imch screen, you will find an ideal companion in the Samsung 2263DX.

From 370,00 Euro, the price seems appropriate for the features and performance this model offers.
