Webcam

If you install the software provided for the webcam, you will have to brace yourself for a few things. As the picture of the Task Manager shows, three additional processes are started which are called up when the system is started and require constant access to the Internet server for data alignment. In the test, the firewall reported every minute. We cannot see why webcam software has to be so obtrusive.

The Magic-i software is clearly aimed at chats with friends. The only things which seem to make sense about this software are the Face Tracking and automatic image improvement options.

The software also offers a large number of fun applications in order to make the webcam picture funnier, such as frames with and without animation and filter effects. These are passed on directly to the camera and thus function in any chat program.

Thanks to its 3 megapixels, the image quality of the webcam is very good overall. Only the light sensitivity came across in a negative light. In our test, the image was only displayed brightly enough when the room was filled with room. The ceiling lighting (40 watt) has absolutely no effect on the brightness. If you want to chat in the evenings via webcam, you should therefore have sufficient light sources – best if these are spotlights.

In addition, Software Companion 2 is provided with the webcam. This can conveniently record images and videos, allow the webcam to run in observation mode and edit images. Observation mode allows the user to upload images directly to an FTP server. The Chat function is somewhat misleading: here, the user has the option to install Messenger if this is not already present on the computer or to start Messenger if it is already installed. Webcam Companion 2 does not offer its own chat function.

The Webcam Companion software from ArcSoft is included in the scope of supply.

The sound quality of the microphone is flawless. The monitor speakers are sufficient for chatting, but should be replaced with a good sound system for gaming and film watching. Carefree users can begin videophoning almost immediately after the monitor is switched on for the first time.
