REVIEW: Samsung T220HD Part 4

Controls and OSD

The screen can be used very well with the aid of the remote control. Although buttons for input selection, menu start, volume control and channel selection are also to be found on the model itself, these are located on the side and not in the usual place of on the lower frame so as not to spoil the design of the screen. This makes navigation through the very extensive OSD a great deal more difficult.

The buttons on the side cover only the most important functions.

The remote control (approx. 220 x 50 mm) allows for convenient use of the Samsung T220HD in all areas.

The use of the remote control and the OSD is almost self-explanatory. This is no surprise, since Samsung has been able to refer to its experience from television production. The menu is well structured and easy to understand. The remote control has a good feel to it and invites you to try it. Thus, the user finds the functions in a very short time.

At the touch of a button on the menu, the user gains access to the main menu of the OSD with a noticeable delay. Here, the following functions are available: image, sound, channel, settings and input.

Below is a breakdown of the application purposes of the T220HD, since the setting options differ. The Image and Channel menus were tested separately as a result. First, we examined PC mode and then TV mode.

PC mode:

The following selection options are available in the "image" menu:

MagicBright, Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness, (Automatic setting & PC screen only in VGA-mode), Image options and Reset.

MagicBright offers the following pre-defined modes which should improve the image quality depending on the field of application: Entertainment, Internet, Text, Optimal contrast and User.

In the Image options menu option, the colour temperature can be optimised: Normal, Cold, Warm and the adjustment of the RGB values. RGB adjustment is only possible when the VGA input of the device is connected and does not function via DVI-D. In order to achieve optimal white point in calibration, the optimisation of the RGB values is a function of elementary importance. Samsung should reconsider this lock.

No chance: There is no possibility fort he user to adjust the RGB values on the model in DVI mode.

The factory settings can be restored with ease. No additional message appears before the settings are restored. The reset only affects the local settings. Thus, if you perform a reset in TV mode, the settings are retained for HDMI, DVI, SCART and the Channel and Sound menus.
