REVIEW: Samsung T220HD Part 6

The table shows the power consumption for every adjustable value. Thanks to the maximum brightness of 300 cd/m², the brightness was absolutely sufficient in the test, even at the maximum energy option values.

Energy saving options measured

47,3 W

40,0 W

In the menu option Channel, you will find the typical setting options for channel selection and the automatic search run. In addition, the region of the country in which you wish to search can be selected.

Controls turned out to be very simple when the model is first used thanks to the "Plug & Play " function: after an antenna cable is attached, all work is carried out automatically in short, self-explanatory steps. From country selection and channel search, fine-tuning to saving – the entire process lasts just about 5 minutes and then all stations are ready for action.

We established that when the model is first used, it changes automatically to TV mode in order to search for search for relevant channels in Plug & Play mode. Perhaps this is en indication of the primary focus of the model. In its function as a TV and PC monitor, we found that it tended rather towards the TV side.

After the channel search is finished, the Samsung T220HD offers the option to sort all channel slots for the channels as you wish.

In the Settings menu, the OSD language, time, volume, power on and power off melody and the light effects and their brightness can be set. The latter menu option refers to the red LED on the bottom left hand side, which can be regulated in ten levels and can also be switched off completely in various modes as desired.

Finally comes the Input menu. Here, the signal sources can be selected. There is also the simple option to provide names for the signal sources. This allows the user to maintain an overview when several devices are connected in parallel. However, only pre-defined names can be selected and it is not possible to define your own names.

The OSD stands out through its enormous display size. However, it is transparent in many parts and allows the image background to shine through. Controls are simple and leave nothing to be desired.

Image quality

The TN panel used in the model ensures subjectively good image quality. The colours look vivid and at first glance, homogeneity and illumination are acceptable. However, the brightness is considerably too high and must be reduced.

Brightness

  Manufacturer Measured
300 cd/m² 271 cd/m²
- 140 cd/m²
- 120 cd/m²
- 65 cd/m²

In the factory settings, MagicBright is set to "user defined“ and the brightness setting is 100 percent. If you set MagicBright to BestContrast, the maximum brightness increases to 301 cd/m² at a brightness setting of 100 percent.

We measured the brightness distribution at 15 points after reducing brightness to 46 percent in order to achieve an optimal value of 140 cd/m².
