REVIEW: ViewSonic VLED221wm![]()
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad US company Viewsonic, which is the world leader in the area of visual technologies and specialises in display solutions for the business, consumer, education and entertainment sectors according to the company’s information, has a new 22-inch LCD monitor in its selection. With the VLED221wm, the company is bringing a model to the market which has an LED backlight. The model number VLED221WM already gives an indication of the special backlight. The differences between LED backlights and conventional (CCFL backlights) cold cathode ray tubes, which have been used in the majority of LCDs until now, can be summarised as follows: CCFL backlights have counted as "classics" to date. There is a large manufacturer’s market and there are good standards in this sector. Accordingly, it was possible to reduce prices considerably in the past. However, this sort of backlight contains toxic and/or carcinogenic substances, which may pose a problem when they are being disposed of.
Advertisement LED backlights are more energy-saving, smaller and therefore slimmer. In addition, they do not contain any toxic substances and they are easier to dispose of. The disadvantage is that the price is higher for this technology and, since the development is still relatively new, the average lifetime is also shorter. This test will show how well the VLED221wm Wide Gamut monitor performs in the various sectors.
Packaging and accessories for the Viewsonic LED221wm As well as the accessories pictured above (VGA cable, DVI cable, sound cable, manual, driver CD, power cable), the base is also included in the packaging, separately to the monitor. This reduces the size of the packaging enormously. In order to guarantee a fast, simple start to using the model, you can look in the manual. This is clearly structured. However, because the monitor is so simple to put together, you can manage well without having to read the manual. The driver CD contains a monitor profile in *.icm format as well as the installation data and user manual in a large number of languages. Weight
