REVIEW: ViewSonic VP2250wb Part 16

As the PS3 shows, the VP2250wb supports a maximum of 1080i.

The ViewSonic VP2250wb supports video signals of up to 1080i in PAL (50 Hz) and NTSC (60 Hz) format on its DVI-D input. Despite the details on the ViewSonic homepage and the data sheet, 1080p is not supported by the LCD monitor. 24p signals (24 Hz = 24 frames/second) are also not supported.

Scene from the HD video clip "Coral Reef Adventure", played back on PC via DVI-D.

The good image quality and the very good responsiveness are also visible as positive characteristics of the monitor in film playback; film scenes with backlights, fog or dark passages do nor pose a problem for the VP2250wb. The same is true for fast-paced action scenes and fast cuts.

Conclusion

The ViewSonic VP2250wb stand out in the 22-inch sector with its very good ergonomic features: rotating, tilting, height-adjustment and, as the icing on the cake, there is the pivot function. The manufacturing quality of the model and its mechanics are flawless.

Especially in terms of responsiveness, of all things, the "work monitor" from the VP series scores well. No streaks and zero corona effect with deactivated Overdrive. Exemplary: ViewSonic allows the user to adjust the Overdrive function to one of three settings. However, even when Overdrive is active, there is no input lag.

We must criticise the lack of hardware-based interpolation settings. This means that the monitor disqualifies itself for use with a games console or DVD player, despite HDCP support, since these devices play back in 16:9 format.

The VP2250wb offers an extended colour space and achieves good to very good coverage of the sRGB, AdobeRGB and ECI 2.0 colour spaces. However, many colour values are not matched precisely enough. This quality is sufficient for editing holiday photos or creating images for your own homepage.

Above all, we have to ask the question why the ViewSonic VP2250wb, as a "Professional monitor", contains a TN panel and not a VA panel, like that which is included in the Eizo S2231W. All in all, the VP2250wb, with its good ergonomic functions, offers a good performance for office and Internet use as well as for games, but is not suitable for graphics workers.
