REVIEW: Iiyama ProLite B2206WS-B1 Part 10

The summary of the UGRA report confirms that the grey balance is too poor. The detailed UGRA report can be downloaded as a PDF file.

This monitor is not a graphics worker’s dream, but in return it achieves colour reproduction that is absolutely sufficient in games and in video playback. With slight adjustments to the primary colours, the user can adjust the white point somewhat, which means that the image appears very well balanced.

Interpolation

Image content must then be adjusted through interpolation algorithms if resolutions which deviate from the native resolution of the screen are displayed. Here, ratios larger than 1:1 are considered, which therefore to not correspond to pixel-precise display.

The scaling option provided in the OSD offers a choice between "Aspect", or justified display, and scaling to full screen. One-to-one display is not offered.

The native resolution of the monitor is 1.680 x 1.050 pixels. Naturally, the image is razor sharp here and leaves nothing to be desired.

Resolution Interpolation: Full screen Interpolation: justified
Somewhat blurry, slightly distorted. Satisfactory Option cannot be selected.
Good to very good Option cannot be selected. "Full Screen" is justified
Good but strongly distorted Pronounced corona effect, Text not very legible
Good but strongly distorted Slight corona effect, otherwise very legible

1.600 x 900 is interpolated as somewhat blurred and is not displayed in justified format. 1.280 x 1.024 can be displayed in justified format, but bright edges are visible, as occurs when the sharpness setting is too high.

It is a pity that the option for justified display is greyed out by the monitor for 16:9 resolutions, since otherwise the interpolation delivers largely good results. The excessive sharpness at 1.280 x 1.024 pixels in a justified view is strange, since the monitor does not demonstrate this behaviour elsewhere and the sharpness also cannot be corrected manually.

Applications

22-inch monitors do not offer as much space for applications as 24-inch models, but with some limitations, it is sufficient to work on two A4 pages at the same time. Although these only fit into the working area without the edges, the user can live with this. Naturally, it is also possible to arrange several applications side by side within the available space, whereby windows sometimes overlap slightly. Text size is more pleasant than on 24-inch models through the pixel distance of 0.282 mm and is comparable with 26-inch monitors.

The 100 percent view of two pages of a Word document is possible as long as you can do without headers and footers.
