REVIEW: Eizo CG246 Part 5

Letterbox-formatted sources (16:9) are displayed full screen.

The following photos give a rough idea about the quality of the scaling. The distance between the camera and the monitor is always the same, the scaling always maintains the aspect ratio, and the display is full screen. The sharpness control is on ‘0’ in every case.

Left: 1920x1200 resolution, right: 1680x1050 resolution.

Left: 1280x1024 resolution, right: 1024x768 resolution.

To demonstrate the effect of scaling in gameplay, here are the same resolutions applied to ‘Civilization IV – Beyond the Sword’:

Left: 1920x1200 resolution, right: 1680x1050 resolution.

Left: 1280x1024 resolution, right: 1024x768 resolution.

Difference made by the ‘Outline Enhancer’:

Left: -3; middle: 0; right:+3.

Judder test

To test the frequencies and display properties supported by the CG246, we connected it to a video processor. Among other features, the iScan VP50 offers variable output frequencies as well a single-bar test, which was used to perform a simple judder test.

Judder test on the Eizo CG246.

All signals at 24Hz, 48Hz, 50Hz and 60Hz were displayed without any errors or juddering. This suggests that within the signal’s frequency constraints, virtually any source can be displayed without any skips or interruptions. This makes the Eizo CG246 entirely suitable for advanced video editing tasks.

Thanks for this review, I bought this display, by far the best one I've owned.
I'd need an information: I 'm about to buy a device that use hdmi to output a 10bit video signal, but only dp is 10 bit in the 246; so is enough to use a hdmi/dp cable or adapter or I'll have 8 bit signal?

sam
I'm unable to guarantee that. You will need a HDMI to DisplayPort converter - not a simple cable - because of different protocols used. A 10bit workflow is in principle not a problem but it depends on the capabilities of this converter.
Perfect, I'll look for a proper converter,
thanks a lot

best regards
sam
