REVIEW: Iiyama AQ5311DTBK Part 3Illumination uniformity is excellent and black and white values are able to convince as well. Gray scales resolution is satisfactory. In particular very dark nuances are not reproduced correctly. The same goes for very bright color areas, too. Games like Unreal Tournament 2003 could be played without any problems as well. What indeed seems insufficient for experts here, will surely do the job in domestic use when playing an occasional game. Quite astonishing is the fact that an IPS panel with a specified response time of 50 ms is subjectively superior to the 20 to 25 ms of a MVA/PVA panel when it comes to occurrence of annoying ghosting effects. Of course, using the Prad.de flash animation there is more blurring compared to 16 or 25 ms the latest IPS panels offer. However the Iiyama performs noticeably better than Samsung's new PVA panel, which, for instance, is incorporated in the Samsung 193P.
No shortcomings or whatsoever unearthed itself during DVD- playback. It can be recommended as being absolutely fit for multimedia purposes of any kind. We tested its multimedia capabilities using the movie Halloween as well as the DVD Werder Bremen Das Double 2004. A monitor that provides a pleasing picture even on fast soccer balls and pan shots certainly won't come up with any problems during movies as well. The OSD can easily be operated with 4 buttons. The menu navigation seems felicitous, too. The labeling of some OSD options however does not appear too well thought out. Nice is the fact that brightness, contrast or color modes work within a range of 1 to 100. This way an exact configuration is guaranteed and reproducible.
Advertisement Brightness and contrast can not only be controlled using the OSD, but also by utilizing the control keys at the device itself. When being operated in analog mode, phase, clock, vertical and horizontal position can be configured. Auto setup for analog mode works both from within the OSD and directly at the monitor.
3 different Values are provided for color temperatures: preset 1 (9300K), preset 2 (6500K), preset 3 (5500K) and custom. It seems out of all reason to us why the appropriate values aren't used for simply labeling themselves. A title such as preset 1 surely doesn't suggest what kind of value it is masking. Thus consulting the manual becomes inevitable.
The OSD can be positioned horizontally and vertically. Unfortunately there is no edgewise option for a pivoted setup available. Additionally language and duration of OSD display can be set. Options for full screen and 1:1 display conceal themselves under the designation "picture size". " Info" provides several kinds of monitor data. Monitor type, year of manufacture and current horizontal and vertical frequencies.
