REVIEW: NEC LCD1860NX-BK
++ very good, + good, +/- satisfactory, - bad, -- very bad
All results issued in this review have been established by using the digital input, with the exception of the test runs for analog image quality, which have been established on the analog input. Our test bed ran with a Gainward 750 Geforce4 Titanium graphics card.
The delivery includes – next to the display – a manual (brief instructions) to set up the monitor, a D-Sub cable, a power cable, a CD-Rom with drivers and a detailed manual in PDF format. . Additionally, there is a wire cover enabling the cables to be invisibly ducted to the back when being looked at from the front.
The NEC 2180UX's outward appearance with its narrow frame is very pleasing (1.5 cm). The case is beige/white and the front frame is silver. Aesthetics are held plain and straight-forward. The OSD's buttons are incorporated in the lower part of monitors frame. But unfortunately, what stands out positively from a design perspective, turns out to be a total failure functionally. The black color of the buttons makes it a sheer impossibility to decipher the engraved labeling. Thus operating the OSD is unnecessarily complicated. This factor becomes very notable because of the fact that many single clicks are required to navigate. The monitor has a Power-On/Off Button and a internal power supply unit.
