Introduction

19 inch LCDs with S-IPS panel that are suitable for gaming are available for a few weeks now. This is what gamers have been anticipated for a long time. Now there is even the first 19 inch TN panel available. Among model with smaller screen sizes gaming capable devices with fast response times often have a TN panel. In our review we want to find out, whether gaming capability is also given in 19 inch models. TN panels have more narrow viewing angles than MVA/ PVA or IPS/ S-IPS panels simply as a result of the way their technology is designed. So it remains to be seen to what extent a narrower viewing angle becomes evident on a 19 inch LCD.

All results issued in this review have been established by using analog input of a Gainward 750 Geforce4 Titanium graphics card.

Scope of supply

Next to the display we get a D-Sub cable, a power cable, a info sheet with instructions on how to set it up and a CD with drivers, PDF manual and software (Lightframe 3 and Flat Panel Adjust).

The software Flat Panel Adjust is supposed for calibrating the display. But the software only offers the absolute minimum of settings. In this regard we have already seen other software that was a lot more potent. If you like, you can find adequate alternatives among our testing utilities.

LightFrame™ is an exclusive Philips Hardware/ Software technology capable of improving the quality of photos and video recordings in a certain selected window, without affecting the display of text based applications at the same time. In short: bright, rich in contrast and sharp display of video recordings or photos in selected areas together with high resolution and high quality display of text and computer graphics on the rest of the screen.

Setting it up

To get started with this device, please stick to the included quick manual. Put the display on a plain ground front side down and bend the angled foot to the correct position. Trying to put the display in an already angled state onto the foot and bending then won't work.

Power cables and all other connections that have to be made is done in a matter of seconds. The connectors are excellently accessible.
