Which panel technology is the best?

There is just no straight forward answer to this question since each panel technology has its advantages and disadvantages.

TN panels are inexpensive and offer great response times. Picking a monitor with such a panel is a good choice for gamers. A huge disadvantage, however, is the narrow viewing angles and the far from perfect reproduction of grey scales. This panel technology is mainly seen in 15 inch to 17 inch LCDs.

MVA and PVA panel offer excellent viewing angles and very good contrast ratios. PVA is an advancement of the MVA technology and was developed by Samsung. These panels are very good choices for Office and graphics work and are mostly incorporated in LCD monitors with 18 inches in size and more. Their suitability for games is rather limited.

While IPS panels have excellent viewing angles just as well, their contrast ratios are lower than those of MV/ PVA panels. This technology is mainly employed in LCD monitors with 18 inches in size and more. IPS panels have proven to be very suitable for games despite the fact that their response time values are in parts actually higher than those of MVA/ PVA panels. They also make for great working equipment in the application fields of Office and graphic/ illustration. If you are looking for a 18 inch monitor or bigger that you also mean to play PC games with, models sporting IPS panel technology will fulfill your wishes.
