In a way, sRGB is the lowest common denominator for the interaction of different input and output devices in the consumer segment. To make this "sRGB chain" work not using colour management, all involved components should exactly meet the specifications, or carry out appropriate transformations on their own. With a modern ink-jet printer, which is normally able to cover a significantly wider colour space, this means that conversions have to be made with the help of the driver. A display featuring an enhanced colour space has to provide a viable sRGB mode.
