GLOSSARY

UL

UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is an organisation from the USA which checks, certifies and carries out safety tests on products. The test symbol is found largely on electro-technical products and is an essential criterion for the US market. UL is not of any importance for us Europeans, since the UL does not recognise the EU norms.

One important norm is, for example, the UL94 (Tests for Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Applications), which assesses the plastic depending on its characteristics. Here, a file number is allocated and a yellow card is provided. The consumer can then access information on certification any time.
