The SCART connector (French: Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorecepteurs et Televiseurs) is also called Euro-AV. The connection transmits audio and video signals such as FBAS (also known as CVBS), S-Video, RGB, audio mono and audio L/R. Additionally, it contains lines for control signals.

For TV sets, VCRs, DVD players etc., SCART is the most common connector in Central Europe, and thus, represents one of the most important audio/ video interfaces.

One can also tap various other signals of the SCART connector by using the appropriate adapter cables, for instance RGB signal by means of a SCART to RGB adapter.

Outside of Europe, there is next to no importance for the SCART connector and it is not used for example in the USA or in Japan which is also why it is not being incorporated into AV devices.
