GLOSSARY

The word candela is Latin and is, as one can easily see, where the English word candle came from. Candela is one of the fundamental physical units and expresses the luminous intensity that a light source emits into a certain direction at a wave length of 550.016 nm and with a radiant intensity in that direction of 1/683 Watt per Steradian. It is measured per square meter (cd/ m²).
