Since the difference between OnBoard sound cards and individual solutions for the PCI slot can still be heard despite the current increase in quality for OnBoard soundcards, there is still a really large market for these sound cards.

Auzentech has announced in a press release that the company is currently working on a sound card which will be called "Auzen X-Fi HomeTheather HD".

The new sound card will broadcast all newer HD sound formats, i.e. DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD, directly from the bitstream to a receiver. The chip in the "Auzen X-Fi HomeTheather HD" comes from Creative and can process EAX 5.0. In addition, it is reported to be the first PCIe card that is fully compatible with HDMI-1.3a, which means that it is possible to play back a BluRay film with 24p, for example, and play back the sound at the same time without additional "downsampling ".

According to Auzentech, the card should be available in the last week of January 2009. The price is not yet known.
