DisplaySearch gets it to the point: In 2012, affordable full-field LED backlight and high-resolution tablet screens will be the new trends in the panel industry.
According to market researchers, the average resolution of tablet PCs is rising to more than 200 ppi in the second quarter of 2012. According to David Hsieh, Vice President Greater China Market with DisplaySearch, this development as inevitable, as tablets are increasingly used for multimedia purposes.

Beforehand, the market share of LED-backlit LCD TVs (Direct and Edge-type) will finally take the 50-per cent threshold, a development that originally was supposed to take place in 2011. Although the Digitimes has forecast at least 50 per cent over the year and a higher rate in the fourth quarter, LED penetration in the TV market was just 39 percent in the third quarter, according to DisplaySearch.

A year later, the analysts predict the sales low-cost LCD TVs with direct LED backlight to increase to five per cent. After all, the low-cost models will be produced cheaply, which is more than meaningful with regard to sales areas to be focused.
Opposed to top-spec TVs, so-called fit-spec TVs are designed for emerging countries, localized units that offer few new features at an affordable price. Rather than being completely downgraded cheap models, those TV sets are essentially similar to CCFL devices, but require less power and feature a thinner chassis, DisplaySearch said.
