BenQ X series for gamers - 22" X2200W with SPD technology

BenQ is bringing new LCD monitor aimed at gamers to the market in the form of the X series. The BenQ X900, X2000W and X2200W come with response times of 2 ms and are expected to be available in Europe within December.

A special feature of the 22-inch top model, the X2200W, is technology that simulates an impulse-controlled backlight, which first appeared in the Samsung 245T: a black image is blended between each frame displayed.

Reduction of motion blur

This should minimise motion blur because of the sluggishness of the human eye. BenQ has dubbed this technology, which does not use a real impulse backlight, Simulated Pulsed Driving, or SPD for short (see illustration).

This ultimately reduces the "Motion Picture Response Time" (MPRT) to 8 ms. Conventional monitors with 5 ms black-white and 2 ms grey-to-grey response time would be equivalent to 15-20 ms MPRT according to BenQ.

Extended colour space and glare screen

The X2200W also has an extended colour space and is the only X model with this feature. According to our sources, the model also has a glare screen. All of the models come with overdrive technology, dubbed Advanced Motion Accelerator (AMA), which makes the fast 2 ms response time possible.

The Senseye technology , which was designed for games and is already present in other BenQ models, adjusts colours and contrasts dynamically. The X series comes in a black design with a chequered flag image on the base as a design. The base offers only a tilting function.

Three inputs including HDMI

The 20-inch X2000W and the X2200W come with a D-Sub and DVI input as well as a HDMI port. The BenQ X900 has to do without the latter, but it still supports the HDCP copy protection standard.

According to BenQ, the static contrast ratio is 800:1 for the X900 and 1.,000:1 for the 20- and 22-inch models, with a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m². All monitors contain TN panels, which are manufactured by Taiwanese panel supplier Acer Unipac Optronics (AUO) according to our sources.

Further models with new AUO panel likely

AUO is responsible for the development of the SPD technology used in the BenQ X2200W. It can therefore be assumed that other manufacturers will react and also bring models to the market that contain the new AUO panel.

As well as the BenQ X2000W and X2200W with resolutions of 1,680 x 1,050 pixels, as well as the 19-inch X900 with 1,280 x 1,024 pixels, the X900W in 19-inch widescreen format is also destined for the US and Chinese markets with a resolution of 1,440 x 900 pixels.

It is not yet clear when exactly or if the X series will also come to the German market. BenQ has spoken vaguely of "selected European countries ", but no prices have been fixed for the new gamer monitors.
