The first monitor for hardcore gamers with Simulated Pulsed Driving (SPD) is to come to the market at the end of January. The 22-inch BenQ X2200W comes with technology that simulates an impulse backlight, in that a black image is inserted after each image displayed ("Black Frame Insertion").

This should eliminate Sampling & Hold Effect, the motion blur which arises in the human eye with conventional LCD monitors. The use of overdrive and the resultant 2ms response time make the BenQ X2200W a hot candidate for the next LAN party.
The TN panel used, with a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050, has a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and offers maximum brightness of 300cd/m². According to the manufacturers, the viewing angles are 170 degrees horizontally and 160 degrees vertically.

The features of the X series models, which have the BenQ chequered flag on their bases, include an analogue D-Sub and a digital HDMI input. In addition, the X2200W covers 92 percent of the visible colour space.
Despite sparing ergonomics features, gamers will have to spend a little more on the pure gamer monitor with SPD technology than they would on a standard 22-inch model: the recommended retail price for the monitor is € 399.00 including a three-year guarantee and a pickup service.
