Electronics manufacturer Mitsubishi presented a new widescreen monitor on Friday in Japan. The Diamond Chrystal RDT231WLM with 23-inch diagonal is reported to have an “intelligent” power saving mode.

As well as a high display quality, the manufacturer highlights the monitor’s energy-saving mode. Its maximum brightness of 300 cd/qm can be changed automatically by the monitor depending on the image content. Thus, if dark colours are dominant, the Mitsubishi monitor should be able to lower the backlight.

At normal power consumption of 51 watts indicated by the manufacturer, it seems that this is not a bad idea, at least for a screen of this size. Models from other manufacturers are sometimes considerably lower than this result. Here, the power consumption in standby mode looks better – here, the RDT231WLM manages with 0.5 watts.
Mitsubishi’s new model should also shine with a good black value and vivid colour display – benefited by the brightness-reducing power-saving function. The maximum contrast ratio is 5,000:1 according to the company. In terms of connectivity, the LCD screen has a HDCP-enabled DVI-D connection and a HDMI port in addition to its VGA port. The integrated stereo speakers offer power of one watt.
The native resolution is 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and Mitsubishi indicates a response time of five milliseconds. The monitor is available in two colours: the RDT231WLM-S is the silver version and the RDT231WLM-BK has a black design. No details are available on height adjustment or a portrait mode. According to Mitsubishi, the market launch date for Asia is the 16th of October. At the moment, no information is available on the recommended retail price.
