Review LG W2420R: graphics professional coupled with wrong colorimeter

With the W2420R, LG itself is entering into the high-end LCD product sector for ambitious image and video editing. Until now, panels from the manufacturer were often used in such devices, e.g. in the recently tested HP LP2480zx and Eizo CG243W, but the company had not produced its own model. The LG W2420R closes this gap and is presented as a screen for demanding users.

The 24-inch H-IPS panel is also integrated into the HP LP2480zx and is also illuminated with three-colour LEDs instead of CCFL tubes. LG promises playback with 10 bits per channel via the HDMI input (Version 1.3) (in the older versions, this was only possible in YCbCr with colour undersampling). In any case, the panel itself is reported to be controlled with suitable colour depth.

The LG W2420R is also suitably equipped in terms of electronics: with a programmable 12-Bit LUT and internal computational precision of 16 Bits, it does not need to hide in the face of the competition. With the integrated deinterlacer, playback of half-frame based signals is possible via HDMI. The software provided allows for hardware calibration with optional colour space emulation. LG also includes a compatible sensor in the form of a colorimeter.
Read how the graphics professional monitor did in our detailed PRAD test and how it performed as compared with the Eizo CG243W and HP LP2480zx.
