Japanese technology group Kyocera, a pioneer in the area of fine ceramic products and manufacturer of industrial LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays), is extending its touch panel line. The touch-sensitive displays are available now in sizes of up to 19 inches. Compared to sheet /glass systems, the new glasse/glass technology allows for increased reliability and improved image display.

Because of its special structure, the touch-sensitive glass/glass touch panel LCD series from Kyocera offers better legibility and increased reliability compared to the sheet /glass structure of conventional LCD touch panel combinations. Here, both the substrate side and the touch side are made from glass. The touch panel displays are available now and are being offered in various formats from 3.5 inches to 19 inches.

The use of the highly transparent glass substrate reduces the dispersal of light rays falling on the screen and ensures a clear view of the screen without distortions. For selected display sizes, there is the option to place the polarisation filter of the LCD on the touch panel especially for applications in external locations. This option reduces the inner reflection between substrate and LCD and makes it easier to read the material displayed when the sun is shining directly on the screen.

The use of glass on both sides guarantees improved durability and allows for hermetic sealing of the touch panel. Thus, the touch panel is protected perfectly from condensation – even in areas of high humidity. Extreme temperatures are no problem for the glass/glass LCD series from Kyocera: the storage temperature ranges from -40°C to +95°C and the operating temperature range is -30°C to +85°C.

The glass/glass touch panel can be adjusted to individual requirements. Thus, regardless of the size of the touch panel, the user can select the thickness of the substrate from 0.7 mm, 1.1mm and 1.8 mm, whilst the glass plate on the user side is always 0.2 millimetres thick. Here, diagonals of 3.5 to 19 inches allow the models to be used in a wide variety of locations. Thus, it is possible to create the perfect system for any application.

Kyocera mainly markets its products for industrial applications such as automation processes, measuring instruments and medical devices, and ensures long-term availability for its customers.
