Samsung eBoard 650TS: chalk was yesterday – touch screen instead of blackboard

The teacher stands in front of a large, brilliant touch screen and explains the structure of complex molecules to the students in comprehensible images. Here, he can access work results on this topic at any time from the students’ netbooks or Thin Client Displays and include them in his own presentation. Such class scenarios are made possible by the new Samsung eBoard SyncMaster 650TS. The electronic whiteboard has a sharp 165 centimetre (65 inch) screen, special touch screen controls and can also be equipped with an optional webcam. Thus, it is perfectly equipped for modern, interactive class forms.

The screen of the Samsung eBoard 650TS offers a diagonal of 165 centimetres (65 inches) and a Full-HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The high contrast of 5,000:1, the brightness of 510 cd/m˛ and the wide viewing angles of 178 degrees (horizontal and vertical) allow all students or those taking part in the presentation to see the screen content clearly, even in large, bright rooms. The flawless display prevents the eyes from becoming tired. Thus, students can also follow the class for longer periods without difficulty. The integrated speakers also allow for playback 9of multimedia content.

As well as infra-red sensors, the Samsung eBoard also has integrated cameras, which constantly follow the position of the stylus provided on the screen surface. Using the pen, the user can move or open objects on the screen by means of drag-and-drop, zoom in on Powerpoint presentations or electronic books and documents or move these on the screen. Furthermore, the Samsung eBoard SyncMaster 650TS has a function for handwritten notes, so the teacher or presenter can comment directly on Flash animations and pictures and provide explanations.

With the Broadcast function, it is possible to display screen content from a student’s laptop or Thin Client on the screen. Thus, teachers are in a position to monitor the learning progress of their students at any time or to include their results in the lesson. The connection to the network is via an Ethernet port and external devices can be connected with the display via USB connection.

The slim design of the Samsung eBoard SyncMaster 650TS allows for problem-free installation of the eBoard in any room. Interactive whiteboard models to date were generally based on DLP technology back projection and required 60 centimetres of free space at the front and back. By contrast, the Samsung eBoard is less than 20 centimetres deep and can be mounted on the wall with ease. Thus, it can also fit into small classrooms and meeting rooms.
