In 2009 Samsung claimed the lead in the global monitor market for the third time in three consecutive years. According to a report by the Digitimes the Korean maker achieved its highest-ever market share for computer monitors last year.

The company posted a market share of 17.9 per cent in terms of sales revenue in the world wide market. Since the first quarter of 2007, by now over twelve consecutive quarters, Samsung has been holding the top position. According to the company, during this period they have managed to widen the gap with the runner-up in terms of market share from 1.5 per cent (2007) up to 5.1 per cent last year. In comparison with 2008, the percental gain was nearly at two points. In the LCD monitor market, Samsung said it has held number one position for ten consecutive quarters.

Year-on-year increases also affected key figures such as the unit sales. 2009 Samsung reached a 16 per cent market share of the overall monitor market in terms of units shipped, same with the LCD monitor market. In 2008 Samsung’s market share was 15.7 and 15.4 per cent (LCD monitors). According to the company, 166 million computer display’s were sold globally in that year. 2009 the figure was down slightly to 160.2 million sets. More than 99 per cent of the total sold were LCD monitors.
