LG's iMac clone trumps original feature-wise, but not in terms of design

With the V300, LG presents the world's first all-in-one PC with CINEMA 3D technology. It is no coincidence that its design is reminiscent of an iMac: The broad, L-shaped base, the all-in-one concept based on notebook components, and the elegant overall appearance including a wireless desktop, are heavily inspired by Apple’s iconic model.

However, LG does not even make an attempt to copy the simple elegance of the rival; in this respect, they do not seek competition. Instead, the South Koreans integrate almost every conceivable innovation into the plain, but elegant housing of the all-in-one: The top version V300-DE10K trumps the 'original' with an integrated Blu-ray drive and a TV tuner; a card reader and HDMI are standard equipment.

As a special treat, LG implements its in-house 3D technology based on the polarization principle. Because at FPR (film-type patterned retarder), glasses need not to be synchronized with a transmitter, the LG V300 comes with two light polarizing glasses that do not need to be charged. The built-in conversion feature converts 2D material into 3D content automatically.

Users who are less 3D affine simply opt for the version without 3D capabilities. After all, they will still benefit from touch control. Three independent camera sensors help to create precise functionality of the multi-touch screen. Apart from that, the LED backlit IPS panel offers rich colours, maximum viewing angles of 178 degrees, as well as Full HD resolution in 16:9 aspect ratio.

While Apple’s iMac provides FireWire 800 and Thunderbolt, the LG V300 incorporates USB 3.0 and eSATA as high-speed ports. Convenient: Connections are allocated at the stand and the rear side. As part of the Microsoft PC Life Tour, the V300, which is available since August 2011, will be presented in 20 major cities from October 20th to late December. While the original price is 1,299 Euros, the buy-it-now price will be lower.
