Despite all the prophecies of doom, plasma TV sets are not threatened with extinction. Thus, Samsung is now presenting the 850 PAVV plasma television. The newcomer appeals especially with regard to its measurements and its modern appearance.

The Samsung 850 PAVV comes in a choice of 50 or 58 inches. The plasma screen offers a Full-HD resolution with 1,080 p. The great optical highlight of the 50-inch 850 PAVV is its depth of just 2.9 cm. Furthermore, the models have slimmed down, since the 850 PAVV weights about 20 percent less than its predecessor. It weighs just 26 kg and 32.5 kg with the base. The new Samsung plasma television offers a brightness of 1,500 cd/m². Furthermore, the 850 PAVV is equipped with a refresh rate of 240 Hz and DLNA support, which makes the networking of multimedia devices easier.

The plasma television is equipped with a tuner and four HDMI connectors. DivX videos can be played back via the USB-2.0 connection. Other media such as photos and MP3s can also be played back directly. Despite the slimness of the television, Samsung has found space for two 15-watt speakers which have even mastered SRS TruSurround. Not only has Samsung managed to save 20 percent space with the 850 PAVV, it has also saved 40 percent on energy costs. Thus, the newcomer consumes 390 watts and less than 1 watt in standby mode.

Prices and dates for Germany are not yet available.
