As Japanese newspaper Nikkei Business Daily reports, the two Japanese electronics groups Sharp and Sony intend to extend their co-operative efforts. After their joint venture led both companies to build the world’s first tenth generation panel production plant, it seems that they also wish to co-operate in the LED backlighting sector.

According to the article, Sharp will supply Sony with LED backlight modules in the future and thereby further expand the business relationship between the two companies. However, the Japanese companies evidently also wish to work together more closely for product development and co-operate on new technologies for the next generation of illumination modules. Both companies hope for improved competitive ability against their South Korean rivals through these efforts. However, neither company has commented yet.
