Having shown little activity in the TV segment so far, Acer sends to field a Full-HD entry-level model. The affordable AT3218MF TV could be one of the last units using CCFL backlight. Naturally, the lighting type of the panel affects image quality and design: The housing, for example, measures about nine centimetres.

Admittedly, the dynamic contrast ratio is of secondary importance. But with the Acer TV, its extent of 20,000:1 is still quite heavily cut back. Also, the brightness of 400 cd/m2 is slightly below the average. While the reaction time of 6.5 milliseconds is still in the fast field, a 50 hertz refresh rate is likely to reflect in some juddering.

In favour, the Acer AT3218MF comes with two digital tuners for DVB-T/C. Additionally, the TV features a CI+ interface for HDTV and pay TV. Another useful function, the USB port provides comfort features such as USB recording, time shift and a media player. The presence of only two HDMI may not be a shortcoming for purchasers on a budget, however.
Soundwise, the built-in speakers only offer three watts of audio performance. Even support for Dolby Digital Plus does not make that better. Those who value good sound quality might want to consider coaxial output instead.
