What is the digital freeze image function all about?

An LCD TV has a little video memory in it designed to buffer a received picture (where one picture is composed of two interlaced pictures). This is what makes it possible to have filters, i.e. like the Deinterlacer (puts two interlaced pictures together again, thereby recreates a complete frame from two interlaced pictures) that serve the purpose of enhancing and preprocessing, applied on a video signal before they are display on the actual screen.

The digital freeze image function can make a copy of a finished picture and display it on the TV. This way, one is able to take a digital still picture (snap-shot) from a scene of an ongoing TV program or Video/ DVD movie. This function is mostly combined with the Picture In Picture or Splitscreen function and in addition sometimes there also more advanced functions like digital Zoom etc. available.
