REPORT: IFA PreView 2007 part 3Table of content: Introduction The parallel new version of the beloved M8 series
The F8 Series from Samsung is prepared to do many things better than the beloved M8 Series is currently able to do. The first thing that strikes you is its new design, whose clean lines give it a markedly more European appearance. The side edges are rounded to the back, and new stylistic touches definitely heighten the total impression. But even on this model, you can't do without Samsung's trademark piano-gloss black finish. The F8 Series is also equipped with a high-quality full HD "super clear panel" with S-PVA technology, offering an 8 ms response time. A WCG CCFL provides backlighting, offering improved colorspace over the standard CCFL. What's new is the enhanced dynamic contrast ratio up to 2,500:1, likely made possible via improved filter technology. All Samsung F8 models employ "100 Hz Motion Plus" which optimizes the display of moving images. True movie enthusiasts can breathe easy, however, because this feature can also be deactivated. In addition, F8 models provide three HDMI 1.3 ports, two on the back and one on the side, as well as a DVB-T tuner. A USB port for showing HD jpeg images and playing MP3 audio files is also available.

Figure: Samsung LE-40F86BD The 40" model LE-40F86BD showed the presentations of the F8 Series. This component was thoroughly convincing and provided a TV experience on a higher plane. Unfortunately Samsung does not offer a matching Blu-Ray player with 24p support, meaning that this 24p-capable LCD TV could show only at 60 Hz, resulting in 3:2 pulldown with slight image jerkiness. The F8 series should be arrive on the market by September in both 40" and 46" versions for a price of €3,199.00 (LE-46F86BD) and €2,599.00 (LE-40F86BD). It is not yet clear whether 37" and 52" versions will also be available. Next page: Samsung PS-50P96FD und PS-63P76FD Table of content: Introduction
