Properly connected: Video connectors for the consumer market

The SCART connector (French: Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorecepteurs et Televiseurs) is also called Euro-AV. The connection transmits audio and video signals such as FBAS (also known as CVBS), S-Video, RGB, audio mono and audio L/R. Additionally, it contains lines for control signals.

For TV sets, VCRs, DVD players etc., SCART is the most common connector in Central Europe, and thus, represents one of the most important audio/ video interfaces.

The component connector (YcrCB or respectively YUV) is frequently encountered in TV sets, DVD players and other AV devices nowadays. It offers very good image quality since brightness (Y - Luminance) and color difference signals (U (Cb/ Pb) red difference signal and V (Cr/ Pr) blue difference signal) are transmitted separately.

If there is no digital connection available between DVD player and LCD TV set, the Component connector ought to be used because the color information exists in this color format on the DVD and this way - despite the analog signal transmission - a very image quality can be obtained.

Important: you are advised to use a component cable of high quality in order to reduce the loss of image quality during the analog signal transmission to an as low as possible amount and to prevent alterations of the video signal by disturbances.
