I've just bought a new Toshiba laptop which has a strange patch on the LCD screen. It's something I've never seen on an LCD before, and I wondered if anyone here might have seen something similar.
All the pixels operate normally (ie on/off), but there is a patch about 4cm wide by 2cm high (off-centre, in the top half of the screen) where the "angle viewing" characteristics seem to be different to the rest of the screen. When viewing a n all-white image, as I move my head from side to side and up and down, the percieved brightness in this area changes differently to the rest of the screen. The image behaves as if there is a bulge in the screen, but there is no visible damage at all when the screen is switched off (or even at lower brightnesses). It's almost as if the LCDs in that area are oriented slightly differently to the rest of the screen.
There is a rigid plastic screen in front of the LCD, so physical damage seems unlikely.
Has anyone seen this kind of fault before? I intend to take it back to the dealer, but would like opinions as to whether this is considered a common fault.
Thanks,
GVM
