  • New (professional) monitor suggestions

    I presume the original poster has gotten a new monitor by now. But just in case anyone else reads my post above:


    in the german language Prad forums, the Dell U2410 seems to be criticised quite often - irregular quality (you could be lucky). A 'glister' (sparkle) effect - from the matt coating being too thick on the screen I think. There's a newer version U2413 that gets mostly good review on amazon.de - it is more expensive though @ over 440 euros.


    Another Dell alternative is the new P2414 - see review here
    Seems like a bargain @ around 200 euros, if it's good enough for your needs.


    I may get it myself, but waiting on a paycheck ;)

    I'm no expert, and will be curious to see what others suggest.


    I have a Dell 2209WA which is 16:10 and got a great review here ("Very Good"), but unfortunately seems to be no longer available and is maybe a bit small @ 22".
    There is a bigger brother that might fit the bill (I'm considering it myself), the Dell U2410, also 16:10 - the review of it here is only in German (only gets a Befriedigend/Satisfactory)
    They say it could have gotten a "Very Good" - except:

    I speak everyday German - which doesnt include monitor-review-speak :)
    But I think that's saying that out of the box it is neither sRGB nor aRGB, and that you *need* to use the integrated "Custom Color" mode to modify colour - but it's literally unusable. Yet they also say the monitor is good for both sRGB and aRGB. Which seems a bit contradictory.


    So I guess I need to dig a bit deeper...


    After a closer look at the relevant pages in the review, I'm still unsure, but it looks like you might need professional calibration equipment to get either sRGB or aRGB, but the monitor is capable of both, which is impressive. They tested A00 and A01 versions. It's also possible this has been corrected since.


    You'll surely find other reviews as it's not a new monitor. It's around €350 on amazon.de


    Anyone know more about this Dell monitor?

    ich wurde das Farbe 'Stahlgrau' nennen - mit eine matte 'finish'.
    meine Zimmer hier ist net so hell, also, vielleicht ist es mehr richtung silber in tageslicht :S

    und danke fürs Testbild (stimmts auch - es braucht um die 10% H. und 50% K. für gamma 2,2)


    meine große frage ist:- wie Andere das Monitor finden mit ein Gamma von 2,2 ? - wie gesagt finde ich das Bild dann dunkel und ohne richtige Weiß (obwohl das immer noch ganz hell ist)


    und ich frage mich ob,
    -
    1) das gamma auf 2,2 sein soll für sRGB photobearbeiten
    2) und ob ich überhaupt das richtige monitor gekauft habe für den Arbeit (sRGB photobearbeiten)(als Hobby meine ich)


    Eigentlich denke ich für den alltag wäre 1,8 das beste - und wenn ich Photos gucke (mit 2,2) sehen die schon richtig gut aus, aber ob ich dass Bild vertrauen kann . .

    Ich muss sagen dieses Dell 2209WA ist meine erste flachbildschirm. Ich will photos (sRGB) bearbeiten können (und mit Canon iP6600D drucken).

    Ich find dass alle Farben sind dann zu kräftig, dunkel, auch "over-saturated" (über-gesättigt?) - dass ist eine subjektiv beindruck. Aber ein richtige Weiss gibts gar nicht mehr auf diese Einstellungen.


    Ich habe bis jetzt kein Kalibrierunggerät - ich muss dafür noch sparen . . .
    Bis jetzt habe ich die Testbilder hier benutzt



    Ob jemanden Folgendes erklären kann -


    ~ soll ich gamma 1,8 oder 2,2 benutzen für photo bearbeiten (sRGB) ?
    ~ kann ich den Bildschirm vertrauen ein ungefähr echtes Bild zu darstellen "out of the box" oder mit 10% Helligkeit & 75% Kontrast (oder was :S )

    this does seem to be the case:-
    Brightness 10%
    Contrast 50%
    gives a gamma of 2.2


    I've also reduced the red as recommended in the review - the red @ 100% was definitely too high. (I realise that individual monitors will vary, and I'm afraid I dont have a calibrator - I did use QuickGamma () to check the gamma).


    But subjectively, I find the resulting picture a bit dark and contrasty and a bit over-saturated even.
    I'm wondering are there others out there with this model and what you think of the monitor at these settings (or similar).
    I just want to be able to mess around with my photos (sRGB) a bit and be able to trust the screen image (I'm not looking for perfection, just to get in the ball park).

    am liebsten 19zoll
    aber für so wenig geld muss ich vielleicht mit 17" leben
    wie gesagt reaction zeit ist mir nicht so wichtig
    aber Farbtreue, und klare text wäre auch gut!

    hallo!
    ich suche eine emphelung -
    (ob es überhaupt gibt für meine Geldbeutel...)


    ich suche eine monitor für bildbearbeiten, also, will dass die farben (relativ) treue sind.
    Ich spiele gar nicht & auch sehe ich keine films an.


    Wenn so was gibts für €300 (oder weniger =) ) wäre toll -
    falls es ein bisschen mehr koster kann ich versuchen zu sparen :tongue:


    ...ist es eigentlich so, dass CRT Monitore generell immer noch besser mit farben sind als flachbildshirme?
