Advice about LCD monitor

  • Hello!

I'm buying a monitor (LCD) and I would like some advice which one to buy:

    I have some candidates:

    Eizo FlexScan L768

    Samsung 193P

    Dell 1905FP

I have found tests only for Samsung so I'm in some kind of a dillema!
I currently have a DiamondPro 930SB CRT so I would like to buy a monitor which would be a match to DiamondPro. I know thats maybe impossible but i think that Eizo is quite close to that one in display quality.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Eizo gives you excellent picture quality, but it is in fact a very slow display. So give us some hints what you wanna do with the display (gaming, video, cad...).

Bevor Ihr eine Frage stellt, schaut bitte in die FAQ. Die meisten Fragen wurden schon einmal gestellt und sind dort ausführlich beantwortet. Auch das Lexikon ist immer einen Blick wert.

  • Well, you see that is the problem...

I do almost everything, gaming, movies, graphics, programming and stuff....
That's why I woud like to choose an "universal" monitor, one that would be good in all fields...
I have to replace my DiamondPro because some medical problems with my eyes (long story) so, as I mentioned, I would like a good substitute for that one (and DiamondPro is a damn good monitor)! I spend a lot of time on a computer (sometimes even a whole day)!

I've heard lots of good stuff about Eizo LCD's but are they really slow? I'm not a hard core gamer (I play maybe an hour a day), but when I do play games I would like to enjoy playing them.

I found no tests of Eizo L768 or Dell 1905FP (they are new on market), so can you tell me anything about them, or give me a link (i'm afraid i do not know german at all, but babelfish translator could help if the page can be translated).
I read reviews about Samsung 193P ( & ) but thats about it (some forums too) and overall they say that it is a good monitor (even really good)! What's your opinion?
Could you compare 193P with Dell 1905FP and L768?
What about some other models in the same quality range?

Thanks a lot for your help!

  • I would advise you an allround TFT with a (S-) IPS panel.

I think this would be the best choice for your range of application.
They give you a good compromise in color, angle and speed.

Models with this panel are among others the Iiyama e481s, LG 1910b or Fujitsu Siemens P19-1a.

  • Ok, let´s start the engine ;)

Which country are you from? Give me please a link to a shop where you want to buy. Why? I wanna have a feeling of the price-relations.

    What is your budget?

Krong is in the first position absolutly right with an IPS panel. They are fast, have good colours and are not that expensive.
One TFT is maybe the new allround-star: the 797 by Eizo. The price will be around E1000 in germany. It has an IPS Panel, 10bit colour tables and more. This device is the first choice for a pro-graphic worker, are you one?, who needs an allround TFT in the other parts.

Please forget the 768 or 193, they have a slow panel. You will get used to the speed, but you can really have better allround TFT!

Nearly every TFT is better than your DiamondPro :D

  • I'm from Croatia.

That's another problem, because there are few shops with a wide choice of monitors, especially TFT monitors, i think that has a widest choice.
The page is only in Croatian so when it loads you have to click KATALOG (upper left corner), then a list appears, now find MONITORI 9"-24" CRT/LCD on the right list and thats it, there are 8 pages (STRANICA in Croatian)... But don't bother if you don't want to...

Another problem is price, 1E = 7.5kn (Croatia has KUNA for currency), and monitors are a bit expensive here! Example Eizo L768 costs 7400kn = cca. 1000E!!!!

That would be the price limit, around 7500kn (cca. 1000E), maybe higher but then that really has to be a good monitor...

You mentioned L797. That would be too expensive because L788 costs 1160E = 8700kn (in Croatia), and i saw that you mentioned somewhere that 797 will cost like 788! And you asked if I was a pro-graphic worker, I am not a pro, but you can say I'm a medium to low graphic user, but then there are photos, games movies, text (programming) which I all do on my computer, thats why I would like a really good all around TFT...

You mentioned that 193p & 768 are slow! Are they really that slow? Is that really noticable? I'm not a pro-gamer, would I notice that?
What about movies? Are they any good at that?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Sorry that didn´t find the time for an answer.

What you need is a TFT with an IPS Panel. So you want a 19" device it will end up in an Iiyama 481, Fujitsu Siemens P19-1A or the NEC 1960nxi. They have all the same panel but different electronics. The P19-1A is our favourit. I hope they are not too expensive in croatia - wonderful country!
The 3 TFTs are our favourits for allround users with a medium budget.

The best choice is the 797, without any question.

The 193p and the 768 are really too slow for you, a lot of normal gamers see those ghost pictures. A lot of people, like me, get used to them. But who tells you that you are that way too? Please listen to me: take a 19" TFT with an IPS Panel!

  • The Problem with slow Panels is not only the performance in games.
You will notice the blur effect (ghost pictures) even when you scroll text or webpages.
At work I have a TFT with a small mva panel and although i dont play any games with it =) I notice this disturbing effect every day.

  • I think I will choose NEC 1960nxi, but I have another question.

How about picture quality on NEC 1960nxi? Is it good? Contrast, blacks & greys, other colour definitions? What's the difference between NEC 1960nxi & sxi?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Yep, it´s really good.

There is no 1960sxi; only a 1980sxi. The 1980sxi has more settings and a different electronic. But: it´s too expensive at the moment and not it´s price worth.

  • Ok, i think that NEC 1960nxi is a monitor for me...

I would like to thank you all so much!

    You've helped me a lot....

    Thanks again!

  • No problem! Have fun with the device and maybe you will find the time for a small test :)
