I have been complaining about my Samsung 193t in the forum for 19' monitors. I found it unevenly lit and showing strange "pinkish" color. Well I filed at Samsung Service Partner, to have it replaced. At first they replied that they were out of stock on this model, but a few days later a package arrived with a new monitor. Quite allright with me.

I am not sure I have heard the end of the story yet though, since I have realised that the Samsungs in this segment are not top notch. And the new monitor I got did not differ so much from the one I wanted replaced.... (the fine print says you get to pay if there is "nothing wrong" with the monitor you return)

    Anyhow, so far service ok!

Just a comment about size and price. I'd say the difference between 18 and 19' isn't that great. Since all the 19' monitors of today have a 1280*1024 resolution, most of them with a large pixel-size aswell ,you don't really get much for your money choosing one of those. I tried a 19' /1280*1024 and decided that it was not much of an achievement. You don't "see" more on your screen, everything is just bigger. Not a bigger workspace, and not at all better for image editing.

I'd go for the good 18' for reasonable money if I were you! Good luck with your purchase.

Actually...oh, this is quite embarrassing... I had it connected to a USB connection that was not working ( I have quite a bunch of USB connections from my moterboard, the ones intended for the front panel on the case do not work the way they should) At first I did not think of checking this as I had read the review, and was half expecting there to be something wrong with the hub on the monitor...

The good part is that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hub on the monitor itself, which could be of interest for the ones planning to get one :]

I got my 201s yesterday and it is a beauty. It looks great and it is very nice with the 1600*1200 resolution compared to the 19' 1280*1024. Suddenly I can preview at two full-size A4 when working with layout. Wow!

The screen is somwhat "glistening" compared to my old Samsung 171P, but I have read that is the case with S-IPS, and it is not unpleasant. Just takes some getting used to. In contrast to the Samsung 193t, this one is evenly lit and shows more normal color. I run it at 6500K, as most people propably use. I use it on DVI-D on a Geforce4 Ti 4400. I have tried to watch a movie, and playing WWIII and Tomb Raider (hmm, the only two games I had at hand :) ) . It works fine and looks splendid.

Does it buzz? Yes, actually, when lowering the brightness and putting my ear close, it does. But it is not to be heard in a normal environment with window closed, if you sit a meter away from it.

It also gets warm. Not burning hot, but warm. (Wonder why, my other tft's didn't)

The only big drawback is the USB hub. It does NOT work. It is not detected by the system, and I have not been able to install drivers for it X(

Thanks for welcoming me! I will post on my future experiences with Samsungs servicepartner...and whether I'll be able to get a monitor without the yellow. As I wrote before I have decided to give up the 193t, even if I get it replaced it will be used as a LCD-TV :)

I ordered the ViewSonic 201s that was tested here on Prad, and hope I get one with a working USB-hub ;) I decided that I needed the higher resolution, and hope to see better colors than in the Samsung monitor. The Nec would propably be an even better alternative for photo-editing, but it was simply to pricey...

For now I'm stuck with my Samsung 171P, which I still love anyway :D

I am sorry that I cannot reply in German, but this is the first good European web forum for tft's that I have found, so I joined anyway. (As you can propably figure out for yourselves, I do read some German)

I bought a 193t a week ago and was utterly disappointed. It was unevenly lit, that is; it showed lighter parts especially along the borders of the screen and in the bottom left corner. These areas where also distinguishable when I used white background. They looked yellow. I have now contacted Samsungs servicepartner about replacing this monitor, as I find it not qualifying to what I should expect. I hope it will work out. If it's going to be yellow, it should at least be even!

But I also want to add that I decided not to use this screen for my work, the colours were strange, to pink in my opinion.

I hope I won't be banned for not sticking to the German Spelling Rules! ;)
