VP201 manufacture date

  • Hi,

I received a few days ago the Viewsonic vp201 monitor.

Unfortunately, I was not aware of the problem with the striped image quality (aka REBK stripes aka screendoor effect).

All most of the reviews in commercial media were positive ones, and did not mention this flaw in the panel. As this monitor is used for graphics work, the image quality is unacceptable.

Can anyone tell if this panel is using the latest technology, and if there is a possibility that vp201's with newer panels would not have inherited this flaw?

    Model number: VLCDS26064-2W
    Serial number: a2104200****

From now on, I will check the recommendations of PRAD - thank you for a very useful service.

  • Just in short, sorry: every 20" LG IPS has those stripes. The new 20" production series is nearly stripes free.

But there are still panels on the market from the old production series.

What I wanna say: you can have a "new" Viewsonic TFT with an old panel. No one knows how many panels of the old series are still on the market or in the storehouses.

What we know is that the new 2080ux+ series is nearly stripes free, so we conclute that they use only the new panel production series.

As a graphic user, take a look on the 2180ux or the Iiyama H540. They are both the better choice.

  • OK. thanks for the quick reply.

The back of the monitor says 'manufactured date: May 2004'. :O

I'll see what the local rep can do with this issue - if they do not have monitors with newer panels, then at least a switch to same manufacturer's other model would be necessary.

Maybe the ViewSonic vp191 might be appropriate for web graphics work, or perhaps vp171b. Definitely the vp201b is out of the question.

  • You can still buy the VP191? It´s EOL since months. Better take the NEC 1980sx or the Eizo 767, a wonderful TFT.

    Keep use up to date.

A small question: how did u get to know about prad and where are you from?

  • I'm in Finland, and yes, I think the VP191 is still on stock and available here.

Although I've read about the upcoming VP192, don't know when it's available and how suitable it would be for graphic design, e.g. would it be better than VP191 (which, of course isn't the greatest either - but maybe better than VP201??). The glossiness of the panel surface in VP192 sounds somewhat disturbing...

I have a Samsung 193P at home office, and it's a fine piece of equipment, and well suitable for graphics. Viewing angle could be a bit better though.

I'll let you know what is ViewSonic's reply to the problem in their 'professional line' product.

    ps. Google! :)

  • Why don´t u get an Eizo? The 768 is a great device!

Finland? Oh, I love your country - not only becaue of the girls. If I get the chance anytime, I will move to your wonderful country.

  • Why finland Tota? It's much too cold there in my opinion...
And how do you know about the girls there?

That is top secret :D I like the cold weather - a lot of snow for skiing and more. We will have hot weather around planet in 20-30years, as long as that doesn´t come true, I love to play with the snow.
