Thanks Samson for the answer. That is actually part of my queastion, are some of these models successors to each other 245B => 245B+.

    2433 => 2443? (Totally different outlook)
    2493 => 2494? (The reslution changes)

Also, are the series in some order like 245Bx => 24x3 => 249x?

What's then the difference between the series? Is it only esthetical or is there some difference in performance?

I kinda like the 2443BW with the height adjusted stand. It has very nice optical specs and is pretty cheap. Also, I don't think it has been replaced by any newer one yet.

    Hi,

I have set my mind on buying a 24" Samsung because of the good price/quality ratio. I am just puzzled by the ridiculous amount of different version. Can someone tell me what is the difference between the following models and if one is way better than the others:

    - 2433BW
    - 2443BW / FW / NW
    - 245B
    - 2493HM
    - 2494HM / HS
    - T240
    (- 245T / Expensive S-PVA)

They all seem to be TN panels and the price range around 300€ here in Finland. So any suggestions / ideas?

EDIT: This was supposed to go to the advisory forum so can the admin please move it?

    Hello you guys.

Thanks for the fantastic site. It has covered all the things I've been interested of concerning displays. Now the things have changed. Recently I've gotten interested in mobile displays in general.

Does anyone know any sites that are more concerned with them? I'd like to know more about the technologies and the most recent products on the market. What kind of display different phone manufacturers use? Which companies produce mobile displays and so on.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!!

From what I've learned from other forums is that that GTG response time is deceivning. That's 'cause ISO times are sum of rise and fall times. GTG on the other hand is time between only one such transition. So 8ms GTG is really closer to 16ms ISO than 8ms.

As I mentioned this is what I've learned from other people. It's not 100% sure fact. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Are you sure that the mini review wasn't about HS95, without P? Cause that is TN.

Anyway I asked Sony Finland about it and they claimed it really is MVA. In addition they sent their new brochure that confirmed it.

PS. Any reviews anywhere? Where was that miin review?

About that panel. As far as I'm concerned TN and TN+film are the same thing. That's also what they say at X-bit labs. That '+film' part is just a historical relic that's been left out in newer publications.

Very informative article, by the way.

Well Mindfactory delivered a monitor to my home door in Finland in three working days and then took it back with full money-back guarantee 'cause it had backlight leaking. I'd say that is good service and propably works in Denmark too.

PS. It doesn't have that forementioned Xerox though :(

Really nice review, just the kind we need. From the experience with the panel (E481S) this review is very accurate. The pros and cons that you mentioned are really the most charasteristic points of this panel.

The review gives plenty of information for someone searching a monitor. It's just a question of prioritizing different qualities. Maybe the biggest issue in my opinion is that dark black, especially in movies.

PS. That backlight leaking that you mentioned is really nonexistent in your panel. I wouldn't worry about that (wich you don't, it seems).

I just got my Iiyama E481S-B. One thing that bothers me is backlight that leaks. Needles to say it's visible only in dimm lighting and dark background.

It's especially bothering in live music DVD's where the lighting is often dark and to get into the feeling lighting in my room should also be dark. This in addition to poor black it's impossible for me to use this for those DVD's.

So this is how it looks like:
    Iiyama E481S-B backlight

Is this worse than usual or is it just something that comes with TFT's?

Now that I'm getting over the first shock, the dissapointment is slowly fading away. It's not any faster though, but the picture is great. I've seen some TN panels and wouldn't want to turn to them. I guess I'll learn to live with that ghosting. I could return it, but I gues there's really nothing better for me at the moment.

PS. I still wouldn't recommend this for games or dark movies though.

PSS. I don't even necesserily think that people here had wrong opinions. I'm just starting to understand what they mean by fairly recognizible ghosting.

Just gotta say this. As I mentioned I ordered E481S from germany. Now it finally arrived. After all those praises from you guys, the display is somewhat dissapointing. The black is far from black(no suprise), backlight leaks a bit from upper edge, one dead pixel and worst of all it is not as fast as I've been told. In most fps'es the streaking is obvious when turning. You don't have to turn 360 as fast as possible to see it, normal moving shows that effect. I don't consider myself picky at all, but if this is supposed to be one of the better monitor in my price range I think I will wait for a while before trying LCD's the next time.

It's not just that bad though. The picture is sharp, I like the colors and it's fast enough for most use. I just had so high expectetions, after all the monitor is recommended for players in the What-To-Buy Guide. I know it says that none of them is perfect, but still.

So there's no new IPS panel around the corner? Are PVA panels getting fast enough?

Yea, that's pretty much what I saw from the specs. I just thought it was marketing talking, advertising the more expensive panel.

And that was other thing that 16,7mil. colors. It seems odd that two panels with so different specs are so closely priced. Who in his right mind would buy that plain 937?

I was just wondering if there are some other differences between those monitors than response time (12ms vs 8ms). Does the plain 937 maybe have better viewing angels or better picture quality. The price difference ain't that big so it's hard to understand why anyone would go for plain 937.

Well your answer sound soothing. I just hope that Tom's is wrong this time. There are just too many happy users for me to lose my good nigth sleep.

The reason I bought it was all the great reviews of prad users and VERY decent price tag. With shipping and a pixel-check included I paid 424euros for it. Not too much for what sounds like a great display!!

I've been reading for this thread for a while and ended up ordering an Iiyama E481S-B from germany. (I'm from Finland) Now just when I had paid for it I found this, review from Tom's that says basicly that IPS-panel's are crappy for gaming.
I'm no hardcore gamer, but I do play some fps'es and other games. So you see why I'm worried.

Otherwise thanks for terrific site and advices that you've offered.
