Fast S-IPS on large TFT's?

  • Ive been reading a couple of tech guides of TFT's, incl the xbit guide (awesome) but what i dont understand is how all 19" S-IPS TFT's are 25ms and everything larger than that is faster. Like the Viewsonic 20.1" having 16ms.

Can someone explain why larger screens are faster?

  • First of all, it depends on the marketing ;) I can show you different devices which are sold as 12ms TFTs in japan an in europe with 25ms.

Second, the difference comes from the developement of the 20-21" TFTs. The 19" IPS panel is quit old and is not moved foreward. There is a new one coming, but no one knows when. It´s simple that the 20" and 21" panels are newer and so a bit faster.

  • eez.. They are really doin their best to make it hard for us to choose TFT.

Ive been looking for 19" (cuz i thought gaming on anything larger was a NONO) but i guess larger screens is the way to go then? I dont really have any limits of price, i just want a v good monitor for gaming. U reckon i shud go 20-21 inch?

  • yup.
    Go 20 inch! Definetly.
I dont see why gaming on anything larger than 19 inch would be a "NONO".
The bigger your screen is, the easier you are going to forget that you are actually in some room, sitting in front of a computer, therefore the more you will get immersed into the game.
Just make sure your PC is fast enough so you can get enough frames per second while playing in the native resolution of 1600*1200.
But hey, since money is not really an object...!
Get the NEC LCD2080UX+ ! Neat device.
