Need a 19" TFT for Office/game use. Are S-IPS better than new fast TN panels?

  • I am looking to buying a LCD monitor in the US.
Unfortunately not all monitors are available here.
I can find the Hyundai Imagequest L90D+ for 390$ and the IIyama ProLite E481S-S for 440$ (I assume it is a S-IPS panel).
Tomshardware gave an excellent review for the L90D+ plus it seems of a better quality than the IIyama but I am not sure. The Iiyama looks cheapy.
I wish I could find both and see for my self but this is impossible.
According to tomshardware the color reproduction in the L90D+ is excellent but is it better than the IIyama?

I mainly need it for office use so clarity of characters is extremely important to me. I occasionaly play RTS and Sports games and very often I will use the monitor for DVD playback. I do not care that much about photography.
For documents I believe that the pivot mode of the Huyndai is very attractive.
Is there any other monitor worth considering that costs less than $450 USD available?
I do not care about the viewing angle. I will always sit right in front of the monitor.
    Any suggestions?

    thanks
    Christos

  • Get a 193P. I got it for 500€ and am very, very happy. You can see ghosting in fast paced games (PES4), but you adapt to it in like 15mins and doesn't bother you if youre not a profesional gamer.

The picture on this monitor really stands out of others. Didn't see one, to reproduce such vibrant and true colors yet.

  • THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT COSTS AROUND 600$. WAY TOO MUCH FOR ME

  • Zitat

... and very often I will use the monitor for DVD playback....

In short: Watching DVDs on a TN-Panel (l90d+) would be a pain in the neck. For your overall type of use I'd decide in favor of an IPS panel (like the one of the E481).
Where do you go for price comparison of US-based online shops? pricewatch.com?

  • For price check I used froogle.com, pricescan.com, bizrate.com and pricegrabber.com , I also checked the prices at newegg.com.

J and R has the lowest price for the 193P.
By the way isn't the 193P MVA?

As far as the disadvantages of the TN.
I don't think that I will use my computer for watching tv or dvd's.
Plus I don't consider myself very picky.
My laptop has a decent screen for watching dvd. The viewing angles are horrible though. (I own a gateway 450ROG with a 15" LCD). Colours are not excellent but ok. Contrast is very low though.
I am quite happy with the screen I have in my office at work (Gateway FPD1930 - two year old very slow monitor with low contrast).
But I only use the monitor for office applications and browsing.

My main concern is how clear is text and how colour show up for picture viewing.

  • Hi,

Why don't you get the Dell 2005FPW? S-IPS Panel and it also goes for $480 every now and then if you keep a watch for deals.. check out I have the L90D+ but when i picked it up i didn't know the difference between S-IPS and TN Panels.
