19" LCD for photography

  • Hey all,

I'm moving to the US soon and will need to buy a new LCD. I can't afford the CG19. I was planning on getting the Eizo L797 but it is not available in the US. I don't care about games just photography.

    I was looking at:

    NEC 1980 SXi - $750
    Lacie 319 - $1000 (a bit expensive for me)
    Eizo L768 - $740
    Eizo L795 - $ 880

Anyone know about these models? What else do people recommend?

    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • You could have a look at the Eizo S1910. I dont know exactly what it is like compared to the other Eizos you mentioned but its a great monitor, too.

  • I think Eizo L768 or Eizo L778 would be best for you. Instead of the NEC1980SXi I'd look for the 1980FXi which offers even more features at same or less price.

The Eizos offer a 10Bit LUT, which improve the colour accuracy. In our reviews the Eizo L778 and S1910 had a very high precision we measured with a colorimeter.

Unfortunately we didn't review the other displays you mention that way. So I can just recommend the two for your applications and perhaps further L768 because of our chief editor's experiences with this one (he has an L768 and a L797 and by the way the latter must be the non plus ultra in imaging quality refering to what he tells about it ;) ). But L797 here costs about 1000 EURO and so doesn't fit into your budget even if you got it the US.

  • No it isn't. It has some extra features and a new lcd-panel with overdrive-technology that allows gaming as well. Here is our review (in english, of course ;) ).

The S1910 is nearly the same as L778 but without some special features and without speakers therefor at a a lower price.
