    is there a comparison table of the different types of panels?


    I have understood that what only matters in lcd monitors is their panels


    every manufacturer gets the panel and puts his electronics to make it better


    knowing the panels' basic characteristics and their limitations would be really helpful


    I know there is a short article about that, but a comparison with real numbers and facts would be best

    As usual, you can find quite a good summary at the beloved Wikipedia. If you got further questions, don't hesitate to ask. I wouldn't go that far to say, all the expected picture quality depends upon is the panel, but surely no manufacturer can overcome the strengths and weaknesses of the panel type. There is still enough room to make or break with every technology, but most certainly especially the TN panel-driven wave of widescreen 22" are quite alike. With more money to spend you can find bigger differences due to better engineering and adjustment. But this additional effort helps more in the field of color reproduction and uniformity of luminance. Sure, this is utterly important for people doing commercials or prints, perhaps not that much for office work or everyday use.
