Best 24" or 26" monitor for gaming and photo editing (input lag, viewing angles and colours)

  • Hi,
I finally decided to buy a new lcd monitor but after reading tons of reviews saying sometimes discordant things I'm very confused...
Since 3 yrs ago I'm using a sony SDM-HS94P 19" x-black au optronics TN panel and I still love its glossy coating and vivid colours but now, due to my job, I need a monitor capable of 1920x1200.

I was born programmer but actually I'm a web designer so I should be able to see how websites looks at 1920 or 1650 resolution, for this reason I've decided to go for a 24" or 26" monitor.
I also play multiplayer games like Americas Army or Counter Strike Source so I need a low input-lag monitor.

I know it's impossible to have best colors reproduction to work at my websites on photoshop and at the same time have a monitor without input lag because these features requires 2 different types of panels (TN for best gaming experience and IPS first and then PVA-MVA for colors fidelity) so the only possible solution is a compromise.

I think I can not consider any S-PVA, PVA, MVA monitor because they all have too much input lag for multiplayer hardcore gaming (3 to 5 frames), I've found only a couple models like Iolair MB24W that seems to have no input lag but reviews says that color fidelity is really bad.

I could buy a TN panel with quite good color reproduction like the HP w2408h
(according to the prad.de review) or Samsung 24B5W/2493HM (same panel of the HP) but probably the best solution is to go for a H/S-IPS panel because some models are able to combine great colour reproduction and wide viewing angles with less than 1 frame input-lag.

Looking around I've found an H-IPS monitor that seems great on paper: the Planar PX2611W that uses the same panel of the NEC 2690WUXi but it's cheaper.

What you think about the HP and the Planar?
Other brands and models that should fit my requirements?
Is my panel choice correct or should I re-consider PVA-MVA panels?
Can someone please tell me where I can find a lcd input-lag comparison chart?

    Thanks in advantage.

  • What you guys think about the Doublesight DS-263N 26" ?
It has the same H-IPS panel of NEC 2690WUXi and PLANAR PX2611W...
It should have 2 dvi and 1 vga (1 dvi more than NEC and PLANAR) and the new models should have the polarizer as the NEC monitor...

This seems to be the best multi-purpose monitor available: great colours and viewing angles combined with less than 1 frame input lag.

It has the same H-IPS panel of NEC 2690WUXi and PLANAR PX2611W but it costs half the NEC.

  • hi

not sure if you're still searching. I've the same requirements for now and found your questions. may i help you.....

the doublesight - so i've read - should be great. but in europa it isn't available. so i can't tell you more.

the lg 2600hp uses the same panel as the nec, but is much cheaper. it also has only ~1 fps input lag and uses ips panel. so this may be the best solution.

also interesting is the lp2475w from hp. but im not realy shure if it is fast enough for CSS (i play it too ;O) with 1-2fps input lag.

so if you are able to test both, w2600hp (_HP_! not w2600h. last one has tn panel) and lp2475, you should try it.

    hope this helps
