Eizo L685 vs. L767... S-IPS vs. MVA

  • I have decided to order the Eizo L685...

but now is available the L767 for a few more Euro. 8o

767 has nice new features like fine-contrast (text, picture, movie, etc.) and 10-bit internal color management... but I found IPS panels better in color accuracy.

What do you think is the best???

    Help me! ;(

  • mmmh.... I think the IPS panel of the L685 is the best.

1 - the new top entry L695 has the same.

2 - the graphic oriented ColorEdge CG18 idem.

So MVA with internal 10-bit color precision is not enough to replace a IPS panel.

At present there are not 19 inch IPS panels... and this explain the MVA choice to cover the 19'' range.

...and if the 767 is better the name must be 785. ;)

  • If L767 then I would prefer the NEC 1980SX because its feature list is larger than EIZOs. And also the nEC looks quite better than the L767.

  • i don't love the design from nec and in switzerland nec is to expensive to buy, eizo has the better offers.

  • Yes... 1980SX on paper can be better than L767.

But I knows by experience that Eizo make total quality monitors.
I think Nec use Samsung panel because they are partners in mobile phones LCD.
I am very curious to know from where has gone out the 700:1 contrast of 1980SX... my fear is that it has a crazy brightness. 8)

    However you can be right...

My problem is to choose from IPS (L685) and MVA/PVA (L767 or 1980SX) ?( ?(

I think, NEC does it also.
I know, that EIZOs Panels inside the L767 is also a MVA or PVA one. This statement I got form EIZOs presentation atthe CeBIT.
EIZO doesn't have an own panel development. And there are no 19"-IPS panels existing.

Anyway, my impression of the L767 was no as the 1980SX. From my point of view it looks a little bit cheaper and all in all I had a better quality feeling at looking onto the 1980SX.

  • Why you not consider the 1880SX?

Nec say will make his own 19'' IPS panel to replace the Samsung into 1980SX...
and this sound like "IPS is better".

But 1 more inch is really a revolution???

I find that the real difference is from 17'' and 18''...

  • Why not simply try both Eizos and both NECs - who cares about 4 LCDs more or less ;) ;)

Seriously: I think / Ich think :) the NECs are a good choice regarding quality but it is your decision if 18'' are enough or 19'' are required

How can it be such a difficult decision?

Because games are not interesting for me. So the 1980SX features like 10 Bit color resoltion the larger size has got a little bit more value than the IPS-advantages at the response times.

The replacement of the PVA-panel of the 1980SX will not taken place before end of this year.

  • newboardmember I can't try 4 more monitors! :D
Cause a mistake I don't have been able to return the two last monitors and I have lost money ;(
So this is my final choice...

18'' or 19'' size is the same for me.

I don't understand why all want 19 inch... because I find it as much comfortable of the 18.
I want the best image quality with text and pictures.

Weideblitz I don't know if 10 bit color management can make the difference.
The computer send only 8 bit informations to monitor.

Eizo for the color calibrated ColorEdge series use only IPS panels and this can say something.

  • i read in the news that a new ips 19" panel should be avaible by juli (i opened a new post about it).

the decission between 18" and 19" is really not simple. as soon as u decided to take a 19" panel u will start to think about a 20" panel (like i did). i have at work two 18" tfts (1880 from nec) and at home two 19" tfts (19x-s1 from siemens). what should i say? working with the 19" tfts is much more comfortable than working with a 18" tft. in my opinion, i would never trade the 19" against a 18".

the big question is: for what do u need the tft? for gaming? than u should take the 685. if u work most the time with word, graphic-programs, excel etc than take the 676.

  • I don't need the monitor for games, but I like it is good with movies.

I have tried six monitors and IPS is not only good for gaming.
In my opinion it has deeper black and better color accuracy.

It sound strange a LCD can be sharper than another...
but when I look at the Eizo L565 (IPS) and then to Acer AL922 (MVA) this seems out of focus and washed!

MVA has also an optical asymmetry and the image in pivot mode is not good as in normal orientation
    (no brand say this).

But I'm sure Eizo and Nec electronics push the panels to maximum and 1980SX and L767 are very good monitors.
This is why I'm undecided... ;(

  • i understand ur problem.

i watch on my siemens x19 around 12hours a day bloomberg-tv and i really see no difference to a tv. but as soon as it goes to product-movies - i have one about fireworks- the nec 1880 is better. on the other hand, movies r better to watch on larger displays ;)

Not in general. It depeneds on drivers and application software.
In print and photo applications a 10-bit colour resolution ist "must"..

  • True 10-bit color resolution is a different thing.

Surely internal 10-bit help the monitor to make regulations with better precision.

I don't know if this is enough to replace a better panel ?( ?(

  • What is your priority - nice looking, flat and so on or do you want the highest available quality?

Seems like you can't get all in one ... :)

  • I like LCD over CRT for my text intensive work.

and if I buy a CRT after I have tried so many LCD... I'm more stupid than what seems...

    Thanks
