NEC LCD2690WUXi and SpectraView II

  • I am trying to calibrate my NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi monitor with SpectraView II software, however the software is unable to communicate with the monitor. Can anybody help with a solution to this problem?

My 2690 monitor was purchased in the UK. The SpectraView II software and NEC/GretagMacBeth X-Rite Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter was obtained from the USA. (SV II is not available in Europe.)

    I am using a 13" 2.4 GHz MacBook with OS 10.5.3.

The 2690 is connected to the MacBook using DVI. No other external monitors are connected.

I set the 2690 back to factory default settings before installing the SpectraView II software. The installation was successful and the Eye-one Display 2 was recognized by the SV II software, however SV II was unable to communicate with the monitor. I had the following error message:

"Unable to communicate with the display monitor. Please confirm the monitor is a supported model."

According to the SV II User Guide the NEC LCD2690WUXi is supported and so is the MacBook provided OS 10.5.2 or higher is installed.

Any help would be much appreciated. (Unfortunately I do not understand German.)

  • So you are using the onboard video from your MacBook.

AFAIK there is a problem with the signals that are transferred towards the monitor. The onboard video is unable to use the DDC/CI protocoll correct. Therefore the Monitor can't be calibrated with your macbook.
It's a simple hardware fault of the macbook.

  • Many thanks for your help. Unfortunately, it appears that the SpectraView II software is not compatible with the MacBook despite NEC stating on their website that it was compatible.

  • Again: I've read several times that it is chipset related. Other Macs work well with the software, just some intel-based MacBooks can't send or receive the DDC/CI data.
