Radeon 9800 pro and dual monitor setup ?

  • HI - hope it's OK I ask a couple of questions in english

I currenly own the Dell 2000FP 20,1' TFT@1600X1200 and plan to buy maybe the upcoming Nec 2180UX (S-IPS) or the Samsung 213 T (MVA) but will in the mean time buy the Acer 732 17'@1280X1024 for games and other extra stuff in my dual monitor setup.

My plan is to buy the new Radeon 9800 pro AGP video card - and therefor I would like to know two things:

    1. Is it possible to get a Radeon 9800 pro with two DVI connections ?

    2. If not I'm stuck with 1 DVI and 1 VGA. My plan is to keep my Dell 2000FP 20,1' TFT on the DVI and then connect my spare TFT - the Acer 732 - on the VGA.
But will Radeon 9800 pro 128 MB version allow me to run my Dell 2000FP via DVI@1600X1200 and my Acer 732 via VGA@1280X1024 ?

Hope someone will respond to my questions - thanks for a great forum :D

  • Hello Dr. Ralph,

    1. No. nowsdays there are no dual-DVI ATI cards on the market. Times ago Gainward produced a special model with GeForce4 chips. Otherwise you should look to Matrox and their Parhelia products.

    2. Yes, the Catalyst driver for Radeon cards supports this feature.

  • Hello Dr. Ralph,
since approx. 6 weeks I'm a owner of a DELL Dimension 8300 with ATI Radeon 9800 (by DELL). I also plan to have 2 TFTs for this PC. I got an official answer by DELL Support for this question:
"A second TFT is possible, but you have to connect it via a S-Video channel. The monitor must have this connection opportunity. Dell UltraSharp 2000FP has this contact."
    Best Regards

  • Sorry to say, but
    What a load of crap!!!!
I reckon even the Dell version of the radeon 9800 has DVI and DSub. No need to use the TV-Out for a TFT.
Unfortunately no radeon offers double DVI.
